I got caught up in the excitement of Boston Marathon last week and I signed up for a marathon. Grandma's Marathon on June 18, 2011 in Duluth, MN. I am super excited to run a marathon and kind of nervous. I tend to get injured quite easily so jumping up to the marathon distance might cause problems but I hope not. I am going to train smart for this race.
My plan for the rest of this year:
Monster Dash 1/2 marathon - this Saturday
Drumstick Dash 10k - Thanksgiving morning
Following the Drumstick Dash, I am going to cross train, start and stick with a weight training program and do some easy running until January when I start my 6 month training plan.
Weight training is something that I know is important for a runner but it is something that I just don't enjoy so I don't do it. Well, that is going to change. I found a weight training program that I am willing to complete and I actually enjoy. I bought a TRX and the equipment necessary to attach it to my basement ceiling. No more excuses. I don't like the gym. Now, I don't have to go to the gym. I just have to go to the basement. I think/hope a strength training program will really help my running.
Happy Running!
no way. I know for a fact that there are WAY too many bicycles in your basement for there to be room for exercising.
ReplyDeleteHa, ha! That is very true...
ReplyDeleteI guess that I will have to do something about the bicycle collection before I can start exercising.
I heard the TRX is awesome. I wanted to take classes for that this october so i could get certified teaching it =)
ReplyDeleteI'm running the Chicago Monster on Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI was supposed to run the Chicago Dash on Sunday here in Chicago, but still injured. I believe that strength training is very important.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Grandma's! That's one marathon I'd totally do again. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Julie,
ReplyDeleteI am still trying to figure out the marathon schedule for next year. I might run one in May marathon called the Wobegon Trail marathon. It is not a true trail marathon....it is actually a paved trail. THe course is actually flat and fast....several people fly in to Minnesota in hopes of BQing. I really want to run TC again too. I know several people who want me to run Grandma's. Including Average A who also commented on your blog:) I ran the half marathon this year and it wasn't the greatest for me. Maybe I have that in the back of my mind. Congrats on registering for Grandma's:) WIll I SEE YOU ON SATURDAY? I WILL LOOK FOR YOU. Take care!
Have fun with grandmas. That race is definitely on my short list of To Do's
ReplyDeleteHow exciting!! I hear great things about that marathon. Happy training :)
ReplyDeleteWeight training is a great way to minimize running injuries. I can completely sympathize with your lack of enthusiasm for weight training, I would rather just run too. Good luck with your training program!
ReplyDeleteGrandma's Marathon is suppose to be a great race. You will have a fun time there.
